Augmented Reality!!

Augmented Reality can be termed as the integration of the virtual World in the real world, which can be viewed with the help of a device generally your Smartphone. It is more often termed as AR. AR uses the real environment which can be captured by the help of your camera lens and overlays virtual information on top of it, such that it looks like it’s actually there in the real world. AR helps you to view the animated 3d graphical images without having that item in front of you.

AR lies much closer to the real world than the virtual reality, as virtual reality creates a fully virtual world or an animated environment with the help of computer graphics in which a human’s physical presence is made to feel real. Whereas, AR superimposes this computer generated animations and graphics in the real time environment, due to this the feel and sense of the present environment is not lost such as the sound, smell, view etc.

The most familiar example of the AR is the game Called Pokemon Go, many of you must have heard about this game. This game uses the AR technology, which uses the real world and places these fantastic digital creatures(Pokemon) all over and players have to search them and catch them by using Smartphone.

Other than this game, AR technology is used by the Google translate. If we scan a word by the camera lens Google translate application translates that word in the desired language. This is helpful for the tourists travelling to different countries.

Snapchat a multimedia messaging service which is used globally, uses the AR technology to provide its users many kind of filters to use for their pictures, like the most famous dog filter, this allows users to put dog’s nose, eyes and ears on their faces while taking selfies. This technology is even used by many android  applications such as beauty plus, B612 etc which uses many more other kind of filters.

There are several other applications of augmented reality, like recently facebook is also testing AR ads for news feeds which might help users to have closer look of the product.

How Zapper gun in Duck hunt game works??

As a kid we were very much amused by the video games. We remained glued to the TV screen for hours to play these games like Mario, Contra, donkey Kong and many more. But the game which fascinated me was the Duck Hunt, in a sense that how in the world duck is killed only if  the zapper gun or video game gun is aimed towards the duck.

So, how does exactly that video game gun works? Why it only kills ducks only if we pull the trigger aiming towards the duck only otherwise it flies away….

The construction of the gun contains a circuit with a photo-diode (transducer device which converts light signal to electrical signals).

The working of this zapper gun is simple enough. So, as soon as we pull the trigger on the gun the TV screen becomes black for a single frame and the areas where ducks are present remains white . Now this frame transition happens in such a split of the second that this cannot be noticed by the naked eyes.

The zapper if aimed towards the duck (i.e. the white patches), the photo-diode then converts this light signal to the electrical signal and sends the information to kill the ducks. Now, if the aim is wrong and the gun if facing towards the black frame, no light signal is caught by the photo-diode (since black screen does not emit any light) i.e. no signal is generated and the ducks remains flying.
